Upgrading your bike simply means replacing old parts with new ones of a better quality. You might choose to upgrade when the original part becomes worn-out or swap a part on your bike for something new that suits you better. We have a few ideas on how and when you might upgrade your bike.
Repair and replace
Components on your bike will wear out through use, when the time comes to replace them it can be worth upgrading to something better. You might choose a new part because it is lighter, performs better or will last longer.
If you have ridden many hundreds of kilometres on your bike it is most likely due a new drive train, cables, tyres or brake pads. Replacing these parts will make your bike operate more smoothly and feel more enjoyable to ride, as well as being safer. You can also change your gears to make climbing hills feel easier. When you take your bike in for a service at a Shimano Service Center your mechanic will be able to advise you.
Little treats for your bike
Not every upgrade is expensive. Replacing dirty, old bar tape or grips can instantly make your bike look fresh and new again – you could even coordinate with your cycling outfit!
